Be The Light!

The year 2017 is now upon us. Although any time is a good time to start something new, the changing of the year marks an easy time for us to begin a new endeavor or revisit an old aspiration. As we take this time in life to reflect on our goals, I hope we will also evaluate our commitment to Christ.

Jesus told his listeners, “you are the light of the world…let your light shine so that others may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” The lesson Christ gave then is the same for us today – be the light.

We were once in the darkness (Ephesians 5.8), but Christ’s gospel calls us to be children of light (1 Thessalonians 5.5). If the world is going to learn about the light, Jesus Christ, then it must learn it from us! Others must see our good works, in and out of worship, and be led to glorifying the Father. No one else can fulfill this great work for us. We must be the light!

We have such an important work to do in 2017. We must show others Christ in us because no one else can complete that task. That is why we must be “children of light, and children of the day. We don’t be long to the night, nor to darkness. So then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep in the night… But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus
Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him” (1 Thessalonians 5.5-10).

Let’s be the light in 2017!
