Leadership

Christ has all authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). He is the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18). At the same time, however, God, in His word, has made provision for functional congregational leaders in His church to ensure that it continues to do the work of Christ.

The two groups of functional leaders within the church which are most clearly distinguished in the New Testament are its elders and deacons.
